Hi,

We're currently running Myriad v3.5.17 across three PC's - 1x Studio, 1x Production and 1x Training (also used for basic log editing etc by presenters).

In recent days, our third machine, the 'training' Myriad has switched to 'Guest User' - something that has happened numerous times before with different releases and is always easily resolved. However, this time no matter what we do, this machine will not allow user signin instead resorting to a guest user account.

It may be conincidence, but since this has happened, all three machines also regularly crash and hang requiring a full restart of all three machines. This usually happens when a user logs in, manually drag a cart into the schedule log or when they search the audio wall.

We have fully investigated everything else on the machines. All three machines have restricted internet access with little other software installed (Adobe Audition on the Production PC).

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Or does anyone have any advice for finding a solution? I'm pretty certain it's going to be something very simple and possibly being overlooked in the frustration of trying to resolve the issue!

Thanks,

Steve

Sorry, Never had that happen, BUT if the on air myriad pc crashes we have to restart ALL pc's including the server, starting with the server first, if we dont then the timings all go out, so far that the run to time is completely useless, it's been known to be as much as 5 minutes wrong !

when this happens, which thankfully is not very often, its time to fire up the mp3 players for a while and do a full reboot of the whole system;-)

then all works fine again.

Hi Steve
I found the 3.5.17 is very stable and we have had no crashes what so ever so do some  checks

1: Make sure that your anti virus is not schedule to auto update also make sure windows has auto update switch off
2: When did you last compress your myriad databases
3: have you checked your cat5 leads to make sure they are not damaged
4: check your network box the your computers connect to is working ok

Regarding your log in problems go into myriad manager and make sure that the user accounts are ok and have not been disabled

If you need any more help then get in touch i'm only in Kendal and can come and help you out

I think John's suggestions are definitely worth following up on - I think you're problem may actually be the other way around - my suspicion is that you had a network issue and the third machine then couldn't find the "Directory" location for the users and someone accidentally set it to the wrong location. Myriad will then have created a new Directory there and as it has no other users it then logs in as a Guest user.

Give the network a once over and also check the event Viewer on the file server for any oddities there. Once this is done, then double check that all the file locations for all the machines are definitely pointing at the same place, not forgetting the Directory of course :-)

Is this that Myriad starts playing the wrong bit in the log - or that the computer clocks are wrong.

If the later then it is a good idea to have all your PC's syncing their time to your server on a regular basis (the default windows is useless) - then have your server sync to a radio clock or NTP server. This means that all the machines on your network have the same time. There are instructions on this board as to how to do this.

Its the time on the computers which tends to go werong and they are all synch'd to the server,
it's one of those things that doesnt happen very often but insist on a full reboot of all pc's including server, I can live with it !

Hi Steve,

At our station we have quite a similar setup. 3 x Myriad 3.5 (2 studio end and 1 for Production/Admin)

The problem you are having in relation to the guest user happened to one of our machines. All I done was check the location Myriad was looking at in regards to the Directory and this seemed to have sorted out that issue.

It might be worth trying to have a look at that to see if thats causing the issue.
