Hi, need some advice on the remote vt module.

Seems to connect as during the startup routine the players etc start to load but the connection is refused on the remote side (my end).

The server logs show connection established.

At the remote the user gets connection refused, another user is connected (when no one else is using the system).

Windows dialog box pops up for error reporting as the applicatio has encountered an error.

Any thoughts?

Remote is using XP Home SP3.  Any firewall settings to change for instance?

Kind Regards Tony

Hi Tony,

Are you VPN'ing in first then connecting (recommended) or have you opened the 2 ports directly on your firewall (not recommended Smile ) ?

Hi Peter, the remote user connects through the RVT module only, no changes have been made in their firewall.

Kind Regards tony

Sorry I should have said - are they VPN'ing into your network first then running RVT or are they just running it up and connecting directly to the outside IP of your firewall?

Hi Peter, no vpn connection is made. The user just runs the rvt module at their end, connecting to the server specified.

The station concerned, Able, have had success in the past but i seem to be struggling.

Kind Regards Tony

Hi Peter, I feel this must be related to the PC itself as installing the rvt on another PC we connect straightaway.

The windows error message on the first PC is related to kernel32.dll.

Time to connect a mixer and microphone to the second PC (the children will be amused not).

Hopefully a fix can be found in the meantime, thanks so far for your help.

Kind Regards Tony

Ok, let us know how you get on - if you do have a firewall installed on that PC it might be worth temporarily disabling it incase it's stopping something, but both connections to the server are initiated by the client TO the server, so usually these should be allowed by most firewall software.

Hi Tony...

I think Peter's right in that it is a PC issue...

If it's any help I RVT in to our (Wayland Radio) RES by both methods, it depends on what I'm doing and have no issue whatsoever with either. Although, I do have ports 6942 6943 forwarded to my home studio PC on my home router, and of course on the Cisco router in the rack at the station.

I do find that it works better when VPN'd in, rather than via the public internet.  It also depends on the speed of the connection, which has been mentioned yet.

If you want to try a RVT in to our RES let me know!

Roger.
