Hi Folks,

I should know the answer to this, but I cannot remember it.

We produce a weekly show, which is now 2 hours long, however, I have a problem with the scheduling...we have news at 11pm and ideally need to have news again at 1am, but I cannot work out how to schedule this.

At the moment, the 11pm hour runs in AUTO-FADE, but the time markers have been removed from the end of the hour, the 12am hour is also AUTO-FADE with the end of hour time marker left in place, but has nothing scheduled for that hour however, Myriad insists on fading the show at the end of the 11pm hour.

Any thoughts on how to get around this problem? I didnt set the clocks up, I just modify the relavant clock for this show.

Cheers :-)

Will

Will,

You're not to far away from a solution yourself!

You don't give the full details of where or how the news is sourced at the 23:00hrs, 00:00hrs or 01:00hrs; either via a 'black box' to automatically switch the news on or off, or some other device, so I'm going to give a solution for a 'black box'.

We (Wayland Radio) have a number of pre-recorded or voice tracks show, particularly over the weekend and this is how I deal with the programmes.

The following is dependant on what style of pre-record the presenter uses, either full content minus ad breaks or full content with ad breaks. It might sound odd having two styles but it is dictated by how near to transmission the programme is recorded.

1. Record Show

Here I'll deal with a full content record as I believe, although you've haven't said, that this is what your team are doing.

Record each hour of the programme as a separate cart, so as an example you would finish laying down a show with two carts of 57:40 min (this would allow for a 20 second news run up or station ID (Wayland's news jingle is 20 seconds)).

The trick is to either time your 'hour' to the last second or allow for timings that 'drift' by selecting the final song in each hours as one that that fades, so if at the end of the record is 57:50 your got some slack to play with andas it fades now one would know any different.

I'm going to call each hour, as an example, Late Night (Pt1) & Late Night (Pt2), you'll see why below, and they were recorded in carts 250 and 251

2. Schedule the Pre-recorded Show.

Here I'm assuming again that you're scheduling the show in the log to run automatically (It would make sense however).

This is how my (Wayland Radio's) logs for each hour would look like to schedule the above.

23:00:00 Header - Late Night (Pt1) (AUTOFADE)  ((A green line will be visible running top to bottom on the lefthand side of the log in AUT0FADE mode and the red/green dots on the right will all be green too)
23:02:01 Deactivate 17 - IRN/SKY NEWS (SAT FEED)
23:02:01 Cart 250 (Change the CART to a SONG; so make sure that the musical notes are showing in the left hand column beside the cart, if not click through the list until it does - this will make Myriad 'fade' the hour meet the demand of the next log item)
23:59:39 Absolute Time marker set at 59:39:00
23:59:39 New Run Up Jingle (I (Wayland Radio) use time markers embedded into the jingle to activate the 'black box' for our news feed) but you could use the following line in you log
23:59:59 Activate 17 - IRN /SKY NEWS (SAT FEED)

00:00:00 Header - Late Night (Pt2) (AUTOFADE)
00:02:01 Deactivate 17 - IRN/SKY NEWS (SAT FEED)
00:02:01 Cart 251
00:59:39 Absolute Time marker set at 59:39:00
00:39:39 New Run Up Jingle
00:59:59 Activate 17 - IRN /SKY NEWS (SAT FEED)

(('Activate 17' and 'Deactivate 17' are the commands sent to switch on and off the news feed via a 'black box' connected to a PCI1750 control card in the back your Myriad PC if you have them fixed. 17 are the first contacts available to control external equipment - 1 to 16 receive commands from external sources to control myriad - fader start being an example) This example also assumes you have an IRN news feed via Sirius and not Astra, if it is the latter you need to add 2 second to each absolute time command to allow for satellite delay on Astra.

I would advise recording each hour separately, as if you've an over zelos 'admin' who clears the record section of the 'Audiowall' regularly you may 'loose' a whole block of programmes particularly if the carts aren't labelled correctly (I write with experience!) Make sure too that you've set up the 'autofill' option, just incase of the former happens after you scheduled, it would mean audio would be selected to fil the gap of the missing hour and it would still run to time.

I hope this helps?

((P.S - If you want to hear the above inaction today (Sunday 15/05/11) tune listen online ( http://www.waylandradio.com ) at 13:00 where the above will happen with two different types of pre-record. The first at 13:00 a full content show, the second at 14:00 only has the content as pre-record (3 18min sections) with all the jingles, IDs, and adverts played using the cue points in the audio blocks or absolute time markers at the top and end of the hour))

Roger.

Thanks for the response Roger :-)

I figured this one out in the end; because its a 2 hour complete show the clock for the hour is setup to add it as a link with the exact time at the end of the hour (as per the other clocks)

My work around for this is to delete the midnight hour from the log and change the exact time from 11:59:02 ro 00:59:02 and then change the show from a link to a song so it autofades correctly.

I think that makes sense.

Will :-)

*BUMP* anyone got an answer for this yet as we are still having to cut the show in half as there is no way to make myriad play a 2hr show in its entirety !

Help if you can it will save us so much time.

Hi All

Im still reading the manuals on Myriad etc... but not sure if this would work as I cant test it just an idea. Can you put it at 11 into auto only and then arrange for another pc to send a command into the serial or tcp/ip in the myriad command language? at a set time say 5 past 12 etc to switch it to auto fade...

LOGMODE     | The Field is replaced with the mode that theStation Database is running in on the Log Screen

                  | The only possible results are an empty string(i.e. no database log open) or:

                  |           AUTOFADE

                  |           AUTO

                  |           LIVE

                  |           STANDBY

                  | Example: <PEP_LOGMODE

Just an idea.

On other playout systems ive used we use timmed events

As I say im just working it out in my head as ive read the manuals but I have no way to test it for you as we are not that far with a project im working on so we dont have myriad yet.

Or cant you make hour 11's header as auto and 12's as autofade?

Glen

We dont really wanted to be looking into external switching etc etc, we just want myriad to play a pre recorded 2hr show in full.

I think the answer is: the way myriad is programmed it will only work per hour, so cut the show in half.

probably easier to be honest, takes maybe 15 minutes top open the file and then save as 2.

but we'll give this topic another bump in 6 months, just incase anyone's figured it out.

Thanks for your help.

Paul Moore

Paul,

one answer is to create the hour using AutoTrack as just AUTO (not run to time), shedule this at say 1PM, this clock contains just one entry, the cart number for your 2 hour show.

In AT DONT schedule a 2PM clock.

In AT shedule a 3PM clock as AUTOFADE (i.e Run to time), then make sure it has at least 60mins of stuff in it.

Then on Myriad what should happen is:

12pm hour runs into the 1PM hour (especially if the 12PM is AUTOFADE).

1PM Hour plays the cart, this finishes around 14:59

Myriad runs into the 3PM hour, changes mode to AUTOFADE and re calculates what it needs to drop (or add if you are using Instant Track).

You should be now back on track timing wise.

hope this helps

Hi Will,

I'm presuming that you must be scheduling the 2 hour shows as Songs so that they are fadable - i'm guessing that you want them to be faded as they haven't been recorded to exactly the right length?

If they are recorded to the correct length (i.e. 118 mins - 120mins minus the 2 minute news) then dave's approach above is the correct one to use.

If they aren't recorded to the correct length then I've thought of a possible one you could try - I have to stress I haven't tried this, so it's just a suggestion.

have your 11PM hour set to AUTO, have your news items at the top of hour but nothing else.

In the 12PM hour, set this to AUTOFADE and have your 2 hour show in there.

Therefore what should happen is:

11PM hour starts and does news.

At the end of the news (lets say 11:02PM) it rolls into the 12:00 Hour, effectively 1hr:58mins early

It starts playing the 2 hour long "show" and realises that it has 2hrs of content but only 1hr:58hr to play it in (until 1PM) so fades off the last 2 mins of the show.

That might work - but definitely give it a test first!
