Hi All,

Am I missing something? In v3 there was an option to set a global artist separation whereas I can only see an artist separation per category.

Hi Matt,

In v4 it was replaced with Core Artist Lists - you can put your "Core Artists" into a list then on the Artist Rules specify a different separation for those lists per category. Sadly we couldn't keep the older per artist Sep AND have core artists as they would have conflicted.

Hi,

So if I had Cliff Richard in the one category and Cliff Richard in another music category there is potentially nothing stopping them scheduling close together as it all seems category based rather than database based.

The Core Artist Lists just seems a way of increasing the turnover of certain artists in the same category.

Hi Matt,

Hmmm not sure I follow exactly - but hopefully this well help Smile

Normal Artist separation is just the same as in v3 - e.g. per Category you are saying the separation that must be achieved when scheduling that category - for example you might have your A-List with a 1 hour separation for artists and a recurrent category with a 6 hour separation. When you schedule the A-List, then Kylie will only be allowed to be scheduled from the A-List if there are no other Kylie songs from ANY category within an hour already in the Log.

Then when you come to schedule your Recurrent category, Kylie songs will only be allowed to be placed if there are no Kylie songs from ANY category within 6 hours already in the log. (This is why it's important to get your scheduling pass order correct of course, otherwise if you schedule your recurrents first then they will likely "block" your (in theory!) more important new A-List tracks by a big artist from being placed correctly)

Now the idea with Core Artist Lists is that you define a set of Artists that define your core station sound (Smooth used to do this with artists like Elton John and so on as they wanted them to be allowed to come round more often than other artists). Then per Category you say what you want your normal separation to be - for example 6 hours for all artists in the Recurrent category, but then for Core List A you might say 3 hours. That way when Kylie (or Sir Cliff!) comes round in the recurrent category it will only check for 3 hours either side instead of the usual 6 hours.

If you wanted to achieve the same as the older global artist separation override then you just need to add that artist to a Core Artist List and then set that Core Artist List separation on each category that you schedule that artist in.

The problem with the older global artists separation override was that it was a massive sledgehammer - it meant that Sir Cliff would get a separation of (for example) 2 hours for ALL categories. If you had a certain category where that wasn't acceptable - say a "Musical and Film" category that is used for a specialist Music From the Movies show - then you may want to use a normal separation otherwise he could possibly come round twice during a 3 hour show. In this case you would set the Core Artist List that contains Sir Cliff to 2 hours on all categories EXCEPT Musical and Film and then set it to be 6 hours on that category to be the same as for all other artists who have songs in that category.

Hopefully that makes sense...

Ahhh - Having just re-read your post, I'm wondering if you are using the separation to slow down artists coming round rather than speeding them up?

If so, the above all still applies, but just set call the Core Artist List something like "Not As Often-ers" - and set it's separation to a HIGHER number than the rest of the artists in that category
