The only way we can make the players line up with the edges of the screens is to run in the independent monitor mode when we get the information about where the split is. With the stretch mode, we can only divide the total screen width of both the screens into slots for the players, and as you say, the record cart means that this is not an even split.
You don't say which version of Windows you are running, but I think that the answer may be to try a different driver for the Matrox. If you have used the default Windows driver, this often does not allow the option of the separate resolutions.
Try getting hold of the latest driver from the Matrox site, and installing this. If you already have a Matrox driver installed, then you may need to uninstall this first, before replacing it.
When you run the installer, you may get an option to enable advanced features. If you do, then say yes to this. Once the driver is installed, you should be able to follow the steps in the Enabling Dual Screen FAQ.
