dues to a very tight budget, our present mixing desk does not have any remote start buttons!  Can we use the K500 keyboard for this or will we still need to get a PCI card to control Myriad?

I am sure you could use that or indeed any keyboard. The F keys control the cart players so F1 plays Cart Player 1 and F5 plays Player 2.
