Hi All,

Windows 7 64 bit:

We're very pleased to announce that we are now able to support all of our current range of products on Windows 7 64 bit (as well as on 32 bit as before!)

This new support for 64 bit editions of Windows 7 only applies to these current products:
  • Myriad Family v4 (Includes Playout, AutoTrack, News, OCP etc.)
  • PowerLog v4
  • File Monitor
  • Boot Stuff
  • Audio Input Monitor.
Older versions of products should only use Windows 7 32 bit, particularly if you are using Advantech hardware cards as those products only used the 32 bit versions of the Advantech drivers.

We still only recommend Windows 7 Pro, Ultimate and Enterprise edition, and don't support other Windows 7 editions such as Home, Basic or Starter.

For a full list of all the supported versions and editions please have a look at the OS Support Policy at http://www.psquared.net/technical-support/os-support.aspx

Windows 8 32 bit and 64 bit support:

Although our recommended platform still remains Windows 7, we know that it's getting harder to get PC's that have Windows 7 pre-installed, and that it's now almost impossible to buy retail copies of Windows 7 over the counter.

We have conducted some very long term tests on Windows 8, and many of the people here at P Squared have switched over to Windows 8 on their desktops and laptops, and in general we have found that our current product lines perform very well on Windows 8 with no obvious issues during playback etc. We have seen some instances where when a user closes one of our applications,  Windows 8 itself seems to think that it has crashed (rather than shutting down cleanly) and this can cause users to worry, but as far as we can tell, the application is shutting down correctly, it's just that Windows 8 doesn't seem to notice!

These reports are rare though, and don't actually affect Myriad etc. running as it's only when closing anyway.

Update: See notice below regarding Windows 8 support

So although we don't recommend Windows 8 (and officially still only support our products on Windows 7) we are fairly confident that our products will work well if installed on Windows 8. This is backed up by feedback from customers who are using Myriad on Windows 8 in their stations and have found it works well.

We do suggest that you still aim to use Windows 7 for any broadcast critical workstations (e.g. in studios etc.) but Windows 8 should be fine for other computers - for example as office computers etc.

Obviously we can provide support for the actual daily use of our products on any of the versions of windows that are capable of running them, but if you are seeing reliability, performance or Windows security related issues then it's likely that we won't be able to assist as it's very possible that it may be an issue caused by the Operating System itself that is beyond our control

Again, just as with Windows 7 this only covers our current generation of products, and is limited to Windows 8 Pro and Enterprise editions. We still don't recommend running any of the lower editions of Windows 8, and we definitely wouldn't recommend or provide be able to provide any assistance with running any older products (such as Myriad v3 etc.) on Windows 8.
