Hi all
just updated our drivers for the M Audio Fastrack Ultra 8R - we have 2  (which were way out of date ! ) and now have an odd issue.
Now running 6.1.9 from here http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Download/Fast-Track-Ultra-8R-Drivers

before , the Ultra8R would show in windows sound control panel as ONE device which could be set to 2 or 8 channel in the drop down box -properties /advanced
Then the myriad drop downs for assigning were obvious….
It now shows as SPEAKERS, plus the 8 line outs in pairs and the drop down in speakers can not be set to multichannel.
this  works with a bit of fiddling however it has to be set as in the picture.
As you will see, channels 7+8 shows as SPDIF now as well which is confusing - they seem to share analog 7+8 with it
Does anyone have any idea why it has changed so radically?  One of the big drawbacks is that now if we remote team viewer in , we can ONLY hear channels 1+2 so can't check segues etc.
Ive tried and tried to no avail..it seems any driver after 6.0.8  (which is old!) has this "feature"

any help much appreciated !

Does anyone have any idea on this?
I have currently had to roll back our drivers to 6.08 from March 2011 so we get the outputs in multichannel simply as shown in the attached screenshots

any thoughts much appreciated !

Hi Bill,

Unfortunately manufacturers often change the parameters of a driver like this(usually only with extraneous features though). Usually they do this forstability or performance reasons. I would advise you to get in touch with thesupport team for the fasttrack and see what they can tell you about this one.Although if you didn’t have any issues with the older driver rolling back maybe quicker.

Hope this helps,

JM

Thanks John

rolled back to older drivers 608 as we do indeed seem to have fixed a myriad problem by updating….
these hopefully will be ok ..

very odd that functionality has been changed so radically on a driver update by Avid forcing us into using 2 year old drivers!

cheers
