I've put around 800 songs in myriad and the database is taking up around 2gb space. That can not be right can it? how do you shrink the database.

We Have 19000 songs on our cartwall and that's just short of 1TB.
Maybe 800 songs at 2GB is about right, remember everything is a WAV file when imported.

djclewes - when you say "Database" - do you specifically mean the Database files (i.e. the station log and meta data - the 'schedule' 'autotrack' and 'directory' folders in v3.x, or the SQL database in v4) - or the entire system including all the "audio files", which it sounds like what paulmoore is talking about.

In my experiences the Schedule and Autotrack databases can get to several hundred Megabytes in size over time.

The audio file format by default is uncompressed WAVE format. You can change this to use MP3 or WMA compressed files instead - which would use less disc space at the expense of lower audio quality. However your example of 2GB for 800 songs doesn't seem to be anywhere near enough for 800 audio files uncompressed.

Hi all,

PCM Linear .WAV files - Stereo, 44.100khz 16bit = 605.62Mb (0.591Gb) per hour

So when we sell a 500Gb HDD, we estimate 100 off for OS and other things.

So 400Gb = 676.30 Hours or 11,594 3.5 min songs.

Hope that helps. BigGrin
