Stop Windows loading Media Player when you insert a CD

In order to do this, you will need to download a utility from Microsoft called Tweak UI. This utility can be downloaded free of charge from the Microsoft site at the following address.

http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstation/downloads/PowerToys/Networking/NTTweakUI.asp

If this link does not work (as the occasionally shift stuff around, do a search for Tweak UI and you should be able to find it).

At this stage you will be warmed that Tweak UI is not supported by Microsoft and installing Tweak UI will effect the support Microsoft will offer. This is a pain but we have not found another way of doing this so if you want to stop Windows Media from automatically starting, you will have to agree and just live with this.

Once you have downloaded it, follow these simple steps to stop Windows Media from automatically start whenever you put an audio CD in to the drive.

Make sure you have down loaded Tweak UI from the Microsoft web site and have unzipped it to either a floppy disk or a folder on your hard drive.
Use My Computer to browse to the location you just unzipped the Tweak UI utilities to.

Right click on the file called tweakui.inf and select Install from the right click menu.

Close the Tweak UI help system that automatically opens, you will not need it.

Open Control Panel (Start button > Settings > Control Panel).

Double Click on the Tweak UI icon.

Click on the Paranoia tab.

Un-tick the Play Audio CD’s Automatically option. And that is it!

You will see a number of tabs on the Tweak UI window which can be used to customise many aspects of Windows, P squared does not recommend that you fiddle with any of the other settings other than the ones listed below and can not accept responsibility to any damage done to your system should you chose to explore Tweak UI’s options.

Search key words: media player, cd, ripping, rip, auto, insert, audio, import.
