Updated: Boot-It has been upgraded to a Full Release product.

We are pleased to announce the release of Boot-It v1 today.

Although we have been working on this for a few months, we have not shared development information with many people so this may well be the first time most of you will have heard of it, so what does it do?

Simple, Boot-It is tool for managing the way applications start. You run Boot-It as soon as a PC starts up and it then performs a bunch of tests such as checking that a server or shared folder is available. Once all the test are complete, it will perform one or more actions such as starting a specific application.

There are two primary examples of where Boot-It can be useful.

  • Check to see of the Myriad server is running only launch Myriad when it has confirmed that the server is running and the data folder is available. This avoids the situation where the workstation is running but the server is still booting up resulting in a 'Network Location No Found' error in Myriad.
  • The second really useful scenario for Boot-It is if you have a backup file server or data location. You can set Boot-It to test the primary data location and if it fails to find it after a set period, test an alternate location and assuming this checks out, launch Myriad with an alternative Configuration Profile.

In addition to launching P Squared products, Boot-It can be used to launch any third party application or 'batch file' so you can use it for just about anything.

The really great news is that we have decided to make Boot-It available free of charge to all of our customers so if you think it will be useful then you are welcome to try it.

Boot-It comes with online help and a User Manual but we are only able to offer direct support for Boot-It to customers with a valid Bronze (or higher) support contract for any other P Squared Product.

Enjoy :-)

Hi All,

As Liam said, this is available now and we are VERY keen to hear about your experiences with it.

We're hoping that it will become one of those "Must Have" tools that no self respecting station should be without.

This product is also the debut for a new look that we are planning to use across a range of new products and tools that we are launching this year, so feedback about that as well would be appreciated. We know that it's a bit different from what you've come to expect, but hopefully you will agree that it's a more "modern" look than some of our older generation products Smile

Please post any thoughts you have in the "Other" forum at http://forum.psquared.net/Forum28-1.aspx so everyone can see and join in.

Watch this space for more (hopefully exciting) new products coming soon to a station near you...

Tried it yesterday - it got us out of a nasty little hole. Very useful. Thanks, chaps.

One minor comment - the product has been "resprayed", but the links on the main Psquared site (the left-hand menu) still use the old name, and have links to the old locations - therefore the download link doesn't work.

Bruce.

noticed today on v1.0.4 that when you add an action there is a typo - something to do with necessary spelt wrong.

It is the area where you put in the folder path and command line stuff.

Wonderful program.  It'll save those "Oh no, Myriad won't work, I can't do my show" moments.
