Hi All,

We are looking at buying dell machines to replace our aging workstations. It has two pci slots which we plan on using for the pci 1750 card and the gina 24 soundcard plus are going to have to buy a new matrox g550 pci-e card for the remaining slot.

Does anyone have any experience of using dell machines with myriad v3. The spec of the pc is here - http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?b&c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&oc=D01315A&rbc=D01315A&s=dhs&sbc=ukdhsftdppdesktop1

If someone from Psquared could look aswell and say yeah or nah I would be grateful too.

cheers

Matt

Hi Matt,

From a brief look over it seems to be Ok. We haven't tested this model ourselves (in fact never even seen it before today) so can't give any kind of performance indicator, but theres normally not much reason for concern with Dell. This one isn't the cheapest they do - which is a good thing - as \"value\" doesn't always equal \"reliable\" in terms of long term use with professional playout systems!

Andy has raised a slight query that the \"chassis\" view certainly looks like it will take a video card, but the tech spec is slightly misleading - it can be read as either a full PCIexpress slot, or a PCIexpress expansion slot for modems/network cards etc. It would be worth double checking this with Dell before you buy just in case.

Also, preaching to the choir I know, but don't forget to select XP Professional rather than Home as obviously that is the only OS we presently support.

Anyway just my tuppence worth...
