Has anyone had experience with lesser soundcards ie M-audio, and use with myriad? :? there semms to be some very tempting offers from some pro-distributors at present, ie £60 for a 4 in 4 out pci card!!?

No, but I could do with details of where you can get a 4-in, 4-out card. I use one machine at the mo for SCOOP edit, logging and streaming and it has three soundcards in it connected in a very complicated way using line in --> line out via splitters and in some cases other PCs. Apart from the fact that the final version sounds not great it is also a pain to maintain!
