Myriad v2: Networking several Myriad PC's together to share audio and data

Note: This information was first published for Myriad v2 users. The recommendations have now been updated - please see http://forum.psquared.net/Topic798-22-1.aspx for more information.

Of course this all boils down to how many Myriad licenses you have (if you aren't sure, you can easily check with sales@psquared.net)

It's very easy to network myriad together - usually just a case of connecting two computers together with a pair of network cables and a network hub (we can supply these, or you can usually get them from any PC shop). After that it depends on the operating system you are using, but if it's windows 2000 or windows 98 and no-one has fiddled with the default settings, the computers should just see each other. Under windows 2000 you will need to go into Control Panel and enable the Guest User account (see windows help for more details on how on your version)

After this you need to share your Myriad folders on the computer that the Myriad information is all stored on. If all the audio and system is on the same hard disk, we usually just share the topmost Myriad folder so that we have to subdirectories of Audio and System. If yours is spread across a couple (or more) hard disks, then share each individually (again, we do this as SYSTEM, AUDIO1, AUDIO2 etc.)

On the other computer, \"browse\" to the first computer (again, see Windows Help for more information) and you will then see the shares you have created. Easiest is to map network drives (right click on the folder and choose Map Network Drive) to these as Myriad will scan these when it tries to automatically configure itself. We always map the MYRIAD or SYSTEM shares to the M: drive, and then any other audio folders to drive letters starting at U: (i.e. U: to AUDIO1 V: to AUDIO2 etc.) Make sure you tick any boxes marked similar to \"Reconnect at Logon\" or \"Remember...\" otherwise when you reboot, it won't reconnect them!

When you then install Myriad on the second PC, let it Auto-Configure itself and it should find the networked system and set itself up correctly. If you already have myriad on this computer, go into Myriad Configuration and click the Auto-Config tab and choose Network Configuration. Myriad should then pick up the networked information and set itself correctly. You can double check this or alter it from the File Locations button on the Local Settings tab. Finally go into Powernet Setup and just check that you have the right license type assigned to the new computer and that you aren't trying to use the same one as the first - Myriad will tell you if you try to do this and stop you running Myriad until the problem is corrected.
